Pune: The Alankar Police have arrested a notorious thief involved in snatching mangalsutras from women during their morning walks.
The accused, Akshay Ganpati Todkar, a 23-year-old resident of Dattawadi, was caught after a thorough investigation led to his identification through CCTV footage.
The incident took place on the morning of August 26, when a woman's mangalsutra was snatched while she was on her morning walk.
CCTV footage showed the suspect fleeing on a Splendor motorcycle. The investigation team spotted the suspect on DP Road and apprehended him as he attempted to flee.
Todkar confessed to the crime, and the police have recovered a gold mangalsutra, a gold chain, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle, with a total value of ₹1.95 lakh.
This successful operation was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam, with support from Assistant Commissioner of Police Ajay Parmar and Senior Police Inspector Sunita Rokde. The arrest was made by Police Sub-Inspector Abhijit Kale and his team.
Chakan Shopkeepers Threatened by Local Extortionist
In a disturbing incident in Chakan, a thug has been accused of threatening shopkeepers, demanding protection money, and resorting to violence when his demands were not met. The accused, Kiran Kachar Pawale, has been charged with extortion following a complaint by Sunil Narayan Gehlot, a local shopkeeper.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in Mahatma Phule Chowk, where Pawale entered Gehlot's clothing store, asked to see a t-shirt, and then began using obscene language.
He threatened to destroy the store unless he was paid protection money, even assaulting Gehlot in the process. Pawale also threatened another local businessman, Prakash Srivastava, the owner of Black Zone Hair and Spa salon, demanding money from him as well.
The Chakan Police have registered a case against Pawale, and Police Sub-Inspector Burud is leading the investigation.
