Motorcycle Thief Caught After Snatching Woman’s Mangalsutra in Pune

During interrogation, he confessed to the theft and disclosed that he had sold the stolen mangalsutra to Omkar Ramesh Chavan, another resident of Alandi.

Pune: A woman out for her morning walk had her mangalsutra snatched by thieves on a motorcycle in the Tingrenagar area. Fortunately, quick action by the police has led to the identification and arrest of the main suspect in the case.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 AM in front of the Sunshine Hotel. The victim, who was out for her routine exercise, reported that a thief approached her on a motorcycle and swiftly pulled the mangalsutra from her neck before fleeing the scene.

As the investigation unfolded, officers from the local police department, including Amjad Shaikh, Sanjay Badre, Sampat Bhosale, and Kishor Bhusare, were able to trace the registration number of the moped used in the crime. Utilizing technical analysis, they confirmed that the motorcycle belonged to a suspect residing in the Alandi area.

While conducting a search in Alandi, the police spotted an individual riding the moped and quickly apprehended him for questioning.

During interrogation, he confessed to the theft and disclosed that he had sold the stolen mangalsutra to Omkar Ramesh Chavan, another resident of Alandi.

Following this lead, the police successfully recovered the mangalsutra, valued at ₹66,000, as well as the moped used in the crime.

The swift action of the police has brought a sense of relief to the community, highlighting their commitment to ensuring safety and security in the area.

The investigation and recovery operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Himant Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner of Police Anuja Deshmane, and Senior Police Inspector Kanchan Jadhav from Vishrantwadi Police Station.
