Pune: Amid growing traffic congestion, MP Supriya Sule conducted an inspection at Katraj Chowk, reviewing the progress of the flyover and other ongoing projects.

She noted the slow pace of the flyover construction and delays in land acquisition, urging the officials to complete the land acquisition process within the next 15 days and present a report in the upcoming meeting with the Commissioner.

Sule emphasized the need to expedite the work and instructed the municipal administration to:

  • Start the widening of the nine-meter stretch from the vegetable market on Satara Road to Gujarwadi Fata.

  • Initiate the tender process for the cemetery road work.

  • Remove encroachments at JSPM Corner and commence the culvert work.

  • Provide an alternative location for the vegetable market that was displaced due to the encroachment removal.

  • Widen the road leading to Datta Nagar and beautify the bus stop.

Municipal officials assured that funds are available for these projects and they will be completed promptly.

Former Standing Committee Chairman Vishal Tambe, former Corporator Kishore Dhankawade, Katraj Vikas Aghadi Chief Namesh Babar, Deepak Gujar, Sambhaji Thorve, Anil Kondhare, Chief Engineer of Road Department Aniruddha Pawaskar, Vikas Patil, Junior Engineer Salim Shaikh, and Traffic Police Inspector Ajay Sankeshwari were also present during the inspection.

The state government recently deposited ₹139 crore into the PMC treasury for land acquisition for widening of Katraj-Kondhwa road.

Since being incorporated into the municipality, Katraj and its neighboring villages have seen a substantial increase in population, making the outer ring road insufficient.

The Katraj-Kondhwa road, initially planned to be 84 meters wide, was approved on October 31, 2018. The road is set to extend from Rajas Society to Khadi Machine Chowk and up to the Pisoli municipal boundary, with an estimated total cost of ₹241 crore, of which only ₹48 crore has been spent so far.
