Pune: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has seen a strong response to its recently launched 'Abhay' scheme, designed to help consumers whose electricity supply has been permanently disconnected due to non-payment of bills.
As of now, 5,538 consumers in the western Maharashtra region have signed up for the scheme, with over 95% expressing interest in settling their outstanding dues through a lump sum payment.
The 'Abhay' scheme, introduced on September 1 and running until November 30, offers consumers a full waiver on both interest and late fees if they clear their outstanding dues. This initiative primarily targets consumers who had their power supply permanently disconnected as of March 31 due to unpaid bills.
For low-tension consumers, MSEDCL is offering an additional 10% discount on the total amount if the dues are cleared in one lump sum. For high-tension consumers, the discount is 5%.
Another option available is to pay 30% of the outstanding dues upfront and the remaining 70% in six interest-free installments.
The cumulative outstanding amount for the 5,538 consumers who have registered stands at ₹11.55 crore. If these consumers clear ₹10.06 crore in principal dues, MSEDCL will waive ₹1.50 crore in accumulated interest and late fees.
Out of the total number of registered consumers, 5,312 have opted to pay their dues in a lump sum. So far, 4,062 consumers have already made payments amounting to ₹4.05 crore.
The highest number of participants are from Pune district, with 2,788 consumers registering for the scheme. Other districts with significant participation include Sangli (1,299 consumers), Solapur (879), Kolhapur (321), and Satara (251).
With 70 days remaining until the scheme’s deadline, MSEDCL is encouraging more consumers to take advantage of the opportunity to clear their outstanding dues without penalty.
The scheme is accessible via MSEDCL’s official website (www.mahadiscom.in) or through their mobile app, making it easy for consumers to register and make payments online.
