Pune: In a tragic incident in Khamboli, Taluka Mulshi, two students from Pune's Fergusson College lost their lives due to drowning in a dam on Sunday (October 20) morning.
The victims have been identified as Raj Sambhaji Patil (22) and Ojas Ananda Katapurkar (22). Both students were in their second year of a Bachelor of Science program. The incident occurred around 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.
According to reports from the police, a group of nine students from Fergusson College had visited the Khamboli area for an outing. While walking along the edge of a field next to the dam water, five of them accidentally slipped into a large pit located beside the embankment.
Although three of the students managed to pull each other out safely, Raj Patil and Ojas Katapurkar were unable to escape and drowned in the water.
Fire brigade personnel recovered the bodies of the two students, which were then transported to the government hospital in Paud for post-mortem examinations. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The deaths have caused immense grief to both families, as the two deceased were the only children of their parents. Raj Patil’s family, originally from Mhalsar, currently resides in Amalner.
The Patil family is mourning the loss of their only son. Similarly, Ojas Katapurkar was the sole child of his parents, leaving his family in deep sorrow following the tragedy.
