Panaji: Under the One District One Product scheme, the government of Goa declared jackfruit as the product for North Goa while coconut as product for South Goa.

The Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries had announced the PM-FME scheme in June last year for micro food processing enterprises in order to promote Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission. Now, the state government of Goa has formed State-Level Approval Committee (SLAC) and district-level committees reserved for each district to confirm the One District One Product.

Under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, a SLAC meeting was held recently where One District One Product scheme was discussed. It also held detailed discussion on the organisational set-up for imposing of the scheme and various steps required to attain the objectives given by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

WHAT IS ODOP

PM FME is a centrally funded sector scheme with an objective to deliver financial, technical and business support to micro food processing. ODOP for the scheme will help provide the outline for value chain development and placement of infrastructure. According to the Ministry, there may be more than one cluster of ODOP products in one district or there may be a cluster of ODOP products consisting of more than one adjacent district in one state.

The states can identify the food product for a district, keeping in view the objective of the scheme on perishables. A study would also be carried out by the state. The ODOP product could be a perishable Agri produce, cereal-based product or a product widely produced in a district and their associated sectors. Under the ODOP scheme, 35 per cent subsidy will be given with a ceiling of Rs 10 lakh for individuals.
