New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

PM Modi on his Twitter handle wrote, “Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS. Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19. I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!”

PM Modi took the first jab from AIIMS, Delhi. In the picture tweeted, he was seen wearing a ‘gamcha’ from Assam, which is symbolic of the blessings of women in Assam while was administered Bharat BioTech's Covaxin by Sister P Niveda from Puducherry. Also, the second nurse was from Kerala.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 vaccination drive for people above 60 years and those aged 45 and above with comorbidities will begin on Monday at 192 health facilities, including 136 private hospitals in the national capital, Delhi government officials said.
