Pune: Following reports of significant delays in submitting statements and documents in child sexual abuse cases, Pune Police have issued a directive to officers and relevant personnel, mandating prompt handling of case-related paperwork.

The directive, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingale, comes after concerns were raised regarding procedural delays that have hindered effective case proceedings in the courts.

The order, which applies to all Zonal Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and Station House Officers, instructs officials to ensure that statements and required documents are submitted within the stipulated timeframes.

The move aims to address gaps identified in June by Additional Public Prosecutor Vidya Vibhute, who highlighted delays in processing paperwork and statements, which, in turn, affect the prosecution's ability to argue cases effectively.

In several instances, the absence of timely input from investigating officers has led to court orders being issued without full evidence from the prosecution.
