Pune: The ongoing construction of the Katraj Flyover has faced significant delays due to traffic congestion at Katraj Chowk, but a series of proposed solutions could help alleviate the situation and ensure progress.
The National Highway Authority, working on the flyover, has identified several measures that could smoothen traffic flow and allow construction to proceed efficiently.
To address the congestion, authorities have proposed a detailed traffic diversion strategy. These solutions, if implemented with the cooperation of the Municipal Corporation, PMPML, and traffic police, are expected to mitigate the delays and prevent further setbacks.
Key Proposed Solutions to Manage Traffic During Flyover Construction:
Temporary diversion of MSRTC buses from Satara to Swargate via Navale Bridge.
Re-routing of most PMPML buses away from Katraj Chowk, directing them through alternate routes like Morenagar, Katraj Dairy, and Katraj Depot.
Redirecting vehicles heading from Navale Bridge to Swargate via Wonder City and Katraj Dairy.
Diverting vehicles from Satara Road towards Kondhwa through Gujarwadi Phata.
Rerouting vehicles from Satara towards Swargate via Navale Bridge, avoiding the congested Katraj Ghat and intersection.
Expedited Land Acquisition
The Municipal Corporation has been tasked with rapidly acquiring land at Katraj Chowk, where land disputes have slowed down the construction. Swift action on this front will remove one of the major roadblocks.
Traffic Trials and Adjustments
Authorities have already conducted two experimental traffic diversions and identified areas for improvement. A third trial is being planned, after which construction will resume in full swing.
“We are working on optimizing traffic flow around Katraj Chowk. The third trial will give us a clearer picture, and once it’s completed, we will resume the flyover work. We urge citizens to cooperate during this critical period,” said Shruti Naik, Executive Engineer, National Highways.
