Pune: A 29-year-old man tragically ended his life by hanging himself at his home in Wagholi, Pune, reportedly due to domestic discord and alleged harassment from his in-laws.

The deceased has been identified as Riyaz Momand Mulla (29), a resident of ST Colony, Wagholi. The incident occurred at his residence on Saturday morning.

A complaint regarding the incident has been filed by Shamin Momand Mulla (54), a resident of the same area. Based on this complaint, the police have registered a case against Riyaz's father-in-law Mujib Babu Sheikh, mother-in-law Shahira Sheikh, grandfather-in-law Chand Mullah Sheikh, wife Sufi Riyaz Sheikh, sister-in-law Sana Usman Sheikh, and another relative, Mehroon Sheikh.

According to the police, Riyaz Mulla worked as a cab driver and married Sufi in April 2024. However, after the wedding, Riyaz was reportedly subjected to verbal abuse and threats by his in-laws.

His wife left to stay at her parental home and refused to return, even after Riyaz visited her to bring her back.

During this visit, he was allegedly treated with disrespect. Unable to cope with the continuous harassment, Riyaz took his own life on Saturday. Lonikand police are conducting further investigations.
