Pune: A newlywed woman took her own life by hanging, unable to bear the persistent harassment by her husband, just four months after their love marriage. The incident took place in Pachwad Kendur in Shirur Taluka.
The deceased, identified as Sakshi Vishal Sakore (22), had married Vishal Baban Sakore on May 10, 2024, in a love marriage that had the consent of both families.
However, shortly after the wedding, it became clear that the marriage was far from peaceful. Sakshi’s father, Balasaheb Dagdu Daundkar (51), lodged a complaint at the Shikrapur Police Station, leading to a case being registered against her husband.
Sakshi, who had moved to her husband’s house in Kendur after the wedding, experienced continuous verbal abuse from Vishal. Even when she returned to her parental home, he would call her late at night, insult her over the phone, and force her to return to her marital home.
In conversations with her father, Sakshi had revealed that Vishal's behavior had worsened over time, often berating her for no reason. Despite her father providing Vishal with ₹50,000 to help with financial needs, the demands continued.
Recently, Vishal had requested additional funds for constructing a house in Shikrapur, but Sakshi’s father had promised assistance only after the construction began.
Sakshi, who had recently started working at an e-Seva center, was still new to the job and had yet to grasp the full scope of her responsibilities. Vishal, instead of supporting her, would regularly abuse her verbally and physically.
On the night of September 3-4, Sakshi, unable to endure the ongoing harassment, took the extreme step of hanging herself at her home.
The tragic discovery was made the next morning. Instead of informing Sakshi’s mother about the death, Vishal called her at around 9 AM, simply asking her to come to their home in Kendur without mentioning what had happened.
At the time, Sakshi’s father was away for work and was unable to rush to Kendur immediately. It wasn’t until 4 PM that Vishal revealed the truth, saying, "Since you didn’t come in the morning, your daughter didn’t survive."
The news was later confirmed by a relative, Pavan Surve. Even more distressing was the fact that none of Sakshi’s in-laws, including her husband, attended her funeral.
