Pune: An alarming incident occurred near Wonder City in Katraj around 2:30 AM on Sunday, where an attempt was made to run over a police officer on night patrol with a car. The officer, in self-defense, had to fire a shot at the vehicle.
Police Sub-Inspector Ratikant Chandrasha Koli (30, resident of Swargate) has filed a complaint regarding this incident. Consequently, a case has been registered at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station against an armed gang involved in diesel theft.
During his patrol in the Katraj area on Sunday midnight, Ratikant Koli noticed four suspicious individuals with a Swift car near Wonder City. As he approached, the armed individuals got into the car and tried to escape by reversing it for about a hundred meters.
The police officer chased them on foot, but the driver suddenly drove the car towards Koli. Despite signaling them to stop, the car continued towards him, prompting Koli to fire a shot at the rear tire of the vehicle.
The driver then sped towards Navale Bridge. Although the police tried to follow, the car escaped. Upon returning to the scene, they discovered diesel being stolen from a truck's tank using a pipe. Further investigations are being carried out by Assistant Police Inspector Swapnil Patil.
