Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Red Alert' for torrential rain in the ghats on Friday, July 26, and an 'Orange Alert' for heavy rain in Pune city and its eastern parts.
As a result, Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase has issued orders to declare holiday for all schools in Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Khadakwasla, Bhor, Velha, Maval, Mulshi, Ambegaon and Junnar.
Wednesday (July 24) night's rainfall led to flooding in several rivers across the district, with most dams nearing full capacity. In Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, significant waterlogging was reported in riverfront and low-lying areas.
The continuous rain is expected to persist for the next two days. On Thursday, July 25, rainfall recorded from 8:30 AM to 6 PM was as follows: Shivajinagar received 51.3 mm, Chinchwad 68 mm, and Lonavala 117 mm.
The lowest rainfall in the district was recorded in Baramati at 15.2 mm. The ghats experienced heavier rainfall compared to the eastern parts of the district.
The monsoon is active across the state, with heavy rains in Konkan and western Maharashtra, and sporadic heavy showers in other parts of Maharashtra.
Cyclonic conditions over West Bengal and Bangladesh at an altitude of 7.6 kilometers from sea level are contributing to the rainfall. The low-pressure belt associated with the monsoon stretches from Ganganagar in Rajasthan through Jaipur, Gwalior, Sidhi, Ranchi, Canning, to the northeastern Bay of Bengal.
Additionally, a low-pressure belt is active from South Gujarat to the northern Kerala coast, causing heavy rainfall along the western coast, including Maharashtra, due to the convergence zone of east-west winds passing through Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Lonavala: 117 mm
Lavasa: 104 mm
Lavale: 74.5 mm
