Pune: BJP’s Madhuri Misal has solidified her hold over the Parvati constituency, winning her fourth consecutive term as MLA with a decisive margin of 54,660 votes.
Misal’s main contender, Ashwini Kadam of the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, was unable to pose a significant threat, despite the election turning into a triangular contest due to Congress rebel Aaba Bagul’s entry.
The constituency witnessed a fierce battle, with Misal receiving 1,18,193 votes, Kadam securing 63533 votes, and Bagul garnering 10,476 votes.
Interestingly, this year saw three candidates named Ashwini Kadam contesting; however, two independents with the same name failed to make any significant impact.
The election was marked by an increase in voter turnout, from 49.05% in 2019 to 55.26% this year. Despite the rise in votes, the BJP managed to retain the seat comfortably.
From the very first round of counting, Misal maintained a lead that only grew stronger, culminating in her significant victory by the 20th round.
While the BJP successfully managed to prevent rebellion within its camp, the MVA faced setbacks due to Bagul’s defection. His candidacy is being seen as a major reason for the split in opposition votes, which worked in Misal’s favor.
