Pune: The Pavana Dam, essential for quenching the thirst of Maval taluka and Pimpri-Chinchwad city residents, has reached 91% capacity.
Starting today at 1 PM, water will be released at a rate of 3200 cusecs, with 1800 cusecs from the spillway and 1400 cusecs from the hydroelectric power plant.
The Pavana Dam continues to receive a heavy inflow, prompting the release of water to manage the reservoir's capacity. The Pavana Dam Division has issued a warning to residents to stay alert.
The dam's catchment area is experiencing increased rainfall, contributing to the current water levels.
To control the reservoir's water storage, the dam will discharge water at a rate of 1800 cusecs over the spillway and 1400 cusecs through the hydroelectric power plant, totaling 3200 cusecs.
This discharge rate may be adjusted based on the rainfall and inflow in the catchment area.
Residents along the Pavana River are advised to avoid entering the riverbed and to relocate any water pumps, farming equipment, or livestock away from the river. This advisory is issued by the Water Resources Department.
