Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has blacklisted 11 contractors for one year after they were found to have carried out substandard work on road repairs and paving block installations.

These contractors had submitted tenders at significantly reduced rates, between 40 per cent to 45 per cent lower than standard rates, and were awarded 14 developmental projects.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, concerned about the quality of work at such low rates, ordered an investigation into the projects. The vigilance department conducted the inspection in collaboration with the Government College of Engineering, Pune (COEP).

The investigation revealed a series of issues, including sinking paving blocks, immediate pothole formation after repairs, inadequate concrete thickness, and insufficient soil on jogging tracks.

After reviewing the findings, the PCMC issued show-cause notices to all 11 contractors. However, the contractors failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the poor quality of work. As a result, PCMC has blacklisted the contractors for a year and will recover double the amount spent on the defective work from them.
