Pimpri: In a significant move to improve education standards, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has opened its first-ever English medium secondary school for students from grades 8 to 10.

The school, housed in the newly constructed Lokmanya Tilak Vidyamandir building in Phugewadi, was inaugurated through a public-private partnership with the ITeach organization.

This initiative is part of the corporation’s efforts to provide quality education in English, traditionally only accessible through private schools.

Previously, PCMC only ran two English medium primary schools, but there was no provision for continuing education in English for higher classes, particularly grades 9 and 10.

This forced many students to move to private institutions. With the introduction of this new secondary school, students from municipal schools now have the opportunity to pursue higher education in English within the public school system.

The corporation has provided essential infrastructure, including classrooms, electricity, and water, to ITeach, which will oversee all aspects of the school's operation.

The NGO will manage daily administration, including staff selection, teacher training, educational methodology, and performance assessment.

All expenses for running the school will be borne by ITeach, supported by donor agencies. Admission is exclusive to students currently enrolled in municipal schools, and the school has already enrolled 238 students.

Innovative Blended Learning Lab

A unique feature of the school is its “Blended Learning Lab,” which uses modern technology and innovative teaching techniques to help students overcome academic challenges.

The lab is designed to allow students to learn at their individual academic levels, improving their skills, particularly in reading and listening comprehension in English.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This school is not merely a building; it is a beacon of hope for the future of our students.

By investing in such institutions, we are fostering a positive change in the municipal education system. These students will undoubtedly shine on national and international stages, bringing pride to our city.”
