Pune: In a surge of aggressive protests, Maratha community members tore down a banner of Rajendra Kondhare in the Sarasbaug area of Pune. The banner was related to a convention organized by Kondhare concerning Maratha reservations.
The protesters, angered by the ongoing reservation issue, also halted PMPML buses at Swargate Chowk and raised slogans demanding action. The police intervened to restore normalcy, allowing the buses to continue their routes.
The ongoing tension stems from the Maratha community's demand for inclusion in the OBC (Other Backward Classes) category for reservation purposes.
Manoj Jarange Patil, a prominent leader of the Maratha agitation, has repeatedly issued ultimatums to the government, demanding action. Despite these demands, the government has yet to implement the changes sought by the community.
In response to the lack of progress, Jarange Patil has hinted at entering the electoral fray, with preparations already underway. He is expected to announce his final decision on this matter on August 29, which has drawn significant attention to his next move.
Currently, Manoj Jarange Patil is on a tour of Western Maharashtra, with today's events centered in Pune. Thousands of Maratha supporters have gathered for his peace rally, which has seen the emergence of posters proclaiming Jarange Patil as the "Future Chief Minister."
These posters were prominently displayed by supporters during the rally, signaling growing political ambitions within the movement.
The peace rally, which is set to begin at Sarasbaug Chowk, has attracted a large number of Maratha community members, many of whom are carrying banners endorsing Jarange Patil as a potential chief ministerial candidate.
