Pune: A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping an 85-year-old woman. The Hinjewadi Police have apprehended the accused, Om Jaychandra Puri, aged 23, just hours after the crime.
According to police reports, the elderly woman was out for her usual evening walk around 6:30 PM on Sunday (September 22) in the open space in front of her apartment.
Without warning, the accused approached her from behind, covered her mouth, and dragged her into a secluded area of the stairwell. It was here that the horrific assault took place.
Not only did the accused commit the act of rape, but he also attempted to murder the elderly woman. After the brutal attack, Om Puri fled the scene, leaving the woman gravely injured.
When the victim failed to return home after an extended period, her family became concerned and began searching for her. They discovered her lying near the stairs, bleeding from her lips and in visible distress. Upon recounting the ordeal to her daughter, the family was left in shock.
The elderly woman was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, and the family quickly reported the incident to the police. In response, the Hinjewadi Police launched an immediate investigation. Thanks to swift police action, the accused was located and arrested within just a few hours of the crime being reported.
This appalling incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of the elderly and vulnerable individuals in the community.
