Pune: In response to mounting complaints about severe traffic congestion, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey announced the identification of 26 major congestion points across the city.

This was unveiled during a virtual town hall meeting aimed at directly engaging with citizens about their concerns, where traffic congestion emerged as the most urgent issue.

Commissioner Choubey, in collaboration with the Traffic Branch, PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation), PWD (Public Works Department), and the National Highways Authority, conducted a comprehensive study to pinpoint the most problematic areas.

The 26 congestion points include key intersections and thoroughfares that experience frequent traffic jams, affecting daily commutes and causing delays across the city.

Among the critical areas identified, Talegaon Chowk and Alandi Phata in Chakan were noted for severe encroachment issues, which have since been addressed with the removal of obstructions.

Additionally, prominent zones like Hinjewadi, Wipro Circle, and Radha Chowk are undergoing targeted interventions, including road widening and enhanced traffic regulation, to alleviate the frequent gridlocks.

“The identification of these 26 congestion points is a crucial step towards addressing the traffic woes faced by Pimpri-Chinchwad residents,” said Commissioner Choubey. “We are committed to implementing immediate and long-term measures to ensure smoother traffic flow in these areas.”

Residents expressed a positive response to the initiative, emphasizing the urgency of the measures. Commissioner Choubey assured that efforts are ongoing to manage and reduce congestion, with a multi-pronged approach that includes collaboration between municipal bodies and traffic management agencies.

In addition to traffic concerns, the town hall also addressed issues related to student safety in schools. Commissioner Choubey detailed the "One Day for School" initiative, which has already educated over 65,000 students across 300 schools on critical safety topics, including POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) guidelines and personal safety.
