Pimpri: With the upcoming Assembly elections on November 20, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police are intensifying efforts to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct across the region.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has implemented multiple preventive and security measures, including checkpoints, patrols, and static police teams, while senior officials are actively monitoring developments.
Extra precautions are being taken in areas that have experienced law and order challenges in previous election cycles.
The jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate includes both urban and rural areas, covering constituencies such as Pimpri, Chinchwad, Bhosari, Maval, Bhor-Velha-Mulshi, Vadgaon Sheri, Khed-Alandi, and Khadakwasla.
To effectively manage these vast areas, the police have deployed 18 mobile and 18 fixed teams working in three shifts, each staffed by three to four officers.
Thirteen static teams are stationed at various points to conduct vehicle inspections, and extensive preventive action is being taken against individuals with past election-related offenses or significant criminal histories.
Since the model code of conduct went into effect, preventive measures have been taken against 251 individuals, and an intensified crackdown on illegal liquor sales has led to the seizure of ₹2.7 million worth of liquor.
Police officers and personnel assigned to polling stations or election duties have received specialized training on election procedures, with 90% of staff already trained.
For election security, around 250 officers and 3,500 personnel will be deployed by the Commissionerate, with additional support from two Border Security Force (BSF) companies.
These BSF teams have already commenced police marches within four police station jurisdictions, and similar marches are ongoing in other locations.
Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey, along with District Collector Suhas Divase and senior officials from the Election Department, are inspecting polling stations within the Commissionerate's jurisdiction. They have provided instructions to implement the necessary security measures.
There are currently 1,800 licensed firearms within the Commissionerate's jurisdiction. Of these, 366 individuals have been exempted from surrendering their firearms, while the remaining license holders have been directed to submit theirs for the duration of the election. So far, 497 firearms have been collected.
