Pune: In a new initiative aimed at curbing pollution in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has appointed two private agencies to take on the responsibility of imposing penalties on those violating environmental regulations.
The Environmental Engineering Department of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) issued a tender to appoint agencies that will handle this task.
Out of the three tenders received, two agencies—Shubham Industries and Sainik Intelligence and Security Pvt. Ltd.—were selected based on the lowest bid.
The work has been divided between the two agencies, with Shubham Industries covering the B, D, G, and H Ward offices, while Sainik Intelligence will manage the A, C, F, and E Ward offices.
These agencies will not only identify violators but also impose and collect fines for the pollution caused. The contract with these agencies will be in place for three years.
According to the agreement, 60% of the fines collected will be retained by the agencies as their service fee, while the remaining 40% will be deposited into the PCMC's account.
Over the contract period, an estimated ₹43.46 million is expected to be collected in fines, meaning that approximately ₹17.39 million will go to the municipal corporation.
This move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the enforcement of pollution control measures in the city, with the objective of reducing environmental violations.
The initiative has been approved by PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, with the standing committee granting its final nod.
