Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has implemented numerous measures to maintain cleanliness in the city, yet some residents continue to dump garbage and debris on roadsides, particularly during the night and early morning hours.
This illegal practice is undermining the city’s cleanliness efforts, as waste is being found not only along highways but also on internal roads.
The PCMC is actively participating in both the "Swachh Bharat" and "Swachh Maharashtra" campaigns. In an effort to make the city bin-free, public garbage bins have been removed, and the "Ghanta Gaadi" service collects waste from every household.
The waste is then processed and transported to the Moshi depot, where wet waste is converted into gas, dry waste is used for electricity generation, and plastic waste is transformed into diesel. Housing societies are also required to manage their own waste.
To address the issue of illegal dumping, the PCMC has appointed sanitation workers to monitor key locations. Fines are being imposed on those caught dumping garbage in public areas.
Furthermore, various initiatives, including the "Deep Clean Drive," are being carried out across the city to ensure cleanliness. Citizens are also encouraged to participate in the "I Am a Sanitation Worker" campaign, aimed at raising awareness and community involvement in keeping the city clean.
Despite these efforts, certain areas remain hotspots for illegal dumping, including stretches along the Pune-Nashik Highway and various local roads. Municipal officers have been alerted, and stricter measures, including fines, are expected to be implemented.
