Pimpri: In a major boost to Pimpri-Chinchwad’s ecological landscape, the state and central governments have green-lighted the development of a ‘Biodiversity Park’ in Talawade.
Spread over 70 acres, this park is envisioned as a cornerstone of sustainable urban planning, aimed at preserving the city’s natural beauty and promoting environmental balance.
The Biodiversity Park project, supported by funding from the state’s ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ scheme and central government assistance, will provide a green oasis in the rapidly urbanizing Talawade area.
The project received formal approval from Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh during a recent standing committee meeting.
According to Deputy City Engineer Manoj Sethia, the park will foster a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, showcasing the potential of ecological restoration, educational initiatives, and community engagement.
The park is designed not only as a conservation effort but also as a public space that will feature various eco-friendly attractions.
The planned facilities include indigenous tree plantations, habitats for native wildlife, themed gardens, and conservation areas. There will be dedicated zones for soil conservation, wetland restoration, and riparian habitats to ensure the park serves as a sanctuary for biodiversity.
Modern amenities such as golf cart stations, bicycle rentals, an amphitheater, cafes, souvenir shops, and eco-educational facilities will enhance visitor experience.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, which recently won accolades under the Majhi Vasundhara campaign, has earmarked ₹10 crore for the park's development.
Further financial support is anticipated from the central government’s special assistance scheme, which aims to boost state-level capital investment in ecological projects.
Mahesh Landge, MLA from Bhosari, expressed optimism that the park would become a major attraction, drawing tourists and nature enthusiasts from around the globe. The park’s development is expected to be a landmark achievement in promoting sustainable urban development and environmental stewardship in the city.
