Pune: In preparation for the upcoming assembly elections, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has mobilized around 5,500 employees in response to the district administration's requirements.
Employees engaged in essential services such as water supply, healthcare, sanitation, and other critical departments have been excluded from this election duty to ensure continuity of these services.
The PMC has instructed all selected employees to report immediately to their assigned election duties, following the enforcement of the model code of conduct. The municipal body has warned of disciplinary action against employees who fail to comply with these orders.
Upon the announcement of the assembly elections, the PMC excluded essential service personnel and deployed a total of 5,320 employees for election-related tasks.
This contingent comprises 3,130 employees from various municipal departments, 2,007 staff members from the primary education department, and 183 teachers and staff from the secondary education department.
The PMC had come under fire on the first day of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Assembly elections, as it failed to remove unauthorized political advertisements that had been placed across the city.
Despite the election announcement, flex banners and boards put up by candidates remained visible at various intersections late into the night, exposing the administrative indifference of the PMC’s Sky Sign and License Department.
However, PMC administration swung into action later and removed the political advertisements across the city, enforcing the model of conduct.
