Pune: In a recent administrative move, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has transferred numerous employees and inspectors across various departments, including the Property Tax Department, where many had served for years.
These transfers are part of a broader reshuffle by the municipal administration, in line with regulations that limit prolonged service in the same department.
However, concerns have emerged as more than 20% of those transferred from the Property Tax Department are reportedly being considered for reappointment to their original positions.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale clarified that while all transferred employees have assumed their new roles, discussions have surfaced regarding efforts to reassign certain ‘experienced’ inspectors back to the Property Tax Department.
This has caused unrest among other department staff who are complying with the transfer orders without such reassignments.
The Property Tax Department’s latest request comes in the wake of a special drive to collect applications for 40% concessions, where pending work involves approximately 20% of the inspectors who were recently transferred.
The department has sought permission for these inspectors to continue working for an additional 15 days to complete their tasks. The Commissioner stated that a decision on this request would be made after a thorough review.
This move has drawn criticism and sparked speculation about the intentions behind these specific reassignments.
While transfers in other departments, such as the Encroachment Department, are being rigorously enforced with inspectors being rotated every three months to curb malpractice, the selective reassignment efforts in the Property Tax Department have prompted questions among municipal officials and staff alike.
As the administration navigates these transfer policies, the broader implications on fairness and transparency within the corporation's operations remain a hot topic of debate.
