Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to introduce 3D mapping of all properties within its jurisdiction under the National Disaster Management Program.
This initiative, funded by the central government, aims to enhance disaster management and streamline property tax assessments. The 3D mapping technology will allow the Property Tax Department to accurately measure and assess properties remotely, thereby improving tax collection efficiency.
According to Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B.P., the software used by the Property Tax Department will be upgraded to integrate with the new 3D mapping system.
This integration will enable the administration to quickly identify discrepancies in property records, detect unauthorized constructions, and provide the public with accessible property information.
Madhav Jagtap, Head of the Tax Assessment and Collection Department, highlighted that the 3D mapping will provide precise data on property dimensions and will be cross-verified with historical records, including old Google Maps.
The system will also trigger alerts for any unauthorized changes, ensuring that any attempts to manipulate property data are swiftly addressed by senior officials.
The software upgrade will cost approximately four crores INR, which will be funded by ICICI Bank through CSR, ensuring that the Municipal Corporation incurs no expenses.
Jagtap emphasized that safeguarding the property tax data of the Municipal Corporation is of utmost priority, and the software from 2008 is being upgraded for this purpose.
The software will be used for 100% property tax assessment, making property surveys easier, and information on properties will be available to the public through 3D mapping, thereby increasing awareness about unauthorized constructions and usage.
The Municipal Corporation will incur no expenses for this, and the staff will be trained accordingly, stated Prithviraj B.P., Additional Municipal Commissioner, PMC.
