Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has received approval from the state government to implement eight new Town Planning (TP) schemes across 912 hectares to facilitate the acquisition of land for the proposed Pune ring road.

The move comes as part of the PMRDA’s efforts to expedite the development of the ring road, a critical infrastructure project designed to reduce congestion in and around Pune city.

Building on the success of TP schemes in Mahalunge and Maan, PMRDA has outlined 20 town planning schemes in its draft development plan.

These plans are focused on areas designated as growth centers, aligning with the region's urban expansion strategy. While six TP schemes for the ring road were already proposed and are awaiting final approval from the state government, the addition of eight more schemes marks a significant step forward in accelerating the project's progress.

During a recent PMRDA meeting, the state government granted official approval for these new schemes, which will be rolled out in Dhamane, Goundumbre, Darumbre, Solumbre, Sangawade, Nere, and Bavdhan Budruk villages. All these areas are adjacent to the planned ring road and are set to benefit from the large-scale development that the project promises.

The schemes will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, which is expected to streamline the process and foster collaboration between the government and private sector players.

The PMRDA aims to begin the land acquisition and implementation process as soon as the regional development plan receives final approval.

The ring road is a key infrastructural project designed to enhance connectivity and ease traffic congestion around Pune. By incorporating these town planning schemes into the development strategy, the PMRDA intends to support the city’s growth while ensuring well-planned urban development around the ring road corridor.
