Pune Police have intensified investigation into the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case. Law enforcement is currently collecting data from over 3,000 mobile users who traversed the area within the last two weeks, aiming to narrow down the search for the suspects.
Utilizing this data, police are conducting technical analysis to gain insights into the movement and identities of the accused.
The investigation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) R. Raja, has also expanded to include questioning more than 200 known offenders in the region. The police have mobilized multiple teams to trace the suspects and ensure a swift arrest.
The gruesome crime took place on Thursday (October 3) night when a young woman and her male friend visited the Table Point area of Bopdev Ghat.
They were accosted by the accused, who were armed with machetes, knives, and a bamboo stick. The perpetrators violently assaulted the male friend, tied him to a tree after binding his limbs, and then gang-raped the young woman while threatening to kill her companion.
Police face several challenges in their investigation. The Bopdev Ghat area is largely deserted, with no surveillance infrastructure like CCTV cameras, making the tracing of the accused more complex.
Despite these obstacles, the police have initiated efforts to collect CCTV footage from 100 locations within a 70-80 kilometer radius of the crime scene. It is believed that the suspects fled towards Saswad after committing the crime.
While mobile data analysis has encountered technical difficulties due to the absence of strong signals in the area, law enforcement remains optimistic. They are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and bring justice to the victims.
