Pune police have implemented a prohibition order in and around Ness Wadia College, extending to a 100-meter radius from the college premises.
This order will remain in effect until October 26, 2024, following recent disturbances caused by protests over an alleged harassment incident involving students of the college.
The order was issued by Additional Commissioner of Police Arvind Chavariya, who is currently holding additional charge as Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The prohibition follows a series of protests by various political party leaders and activists in response to the sexual assault case that surfaced at Ness Wadia College.
These demonstrations led the principal of the college to submit a formal complaint to the Koregaon Park Police Station, requesting intervention to restore order and ensure the safety of students and staff.
In the issued order, it is emphasized that a peaceful and conducive learning environment is crucial for students. However, recent gatherings, protests, and demonstrations organized by external individuals and groups, without prior permission from the college or the police, have caused disruptions.
These events included large crowds, public speeches, and slogan-shouting that disturbed the academic atmosphere of the college. The order highlights that the disturbances not only interrupted educational activities but also posed a risk to the safety of students, parents, and staff members.
To address these concerns, the police have imposed restrictions on the gathering of non-students and the entry of outsiders into the college's premises.
The order strictly prohibits any assembly of individuals within a 100-meter radius of the college, with exceptions made only for students, faculty, staff, police officers, and security personnel.
