Pune: Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stated that police officers found involved in crimes against women, POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses), or drug-related offenses will face immediate dismissal.

Fadnavis emphasized the need for swift action in such cases to prevent future complications. "Suppressing these crimes will only lead to bigger problems down the line.

We have decided that if any police officer is found involved in these offenses, they will be dismissed without hesitation," Fadnavis said.

Fadnavis revealed plans to procure modern drones to monitor large public events like Ganesh immersion processions, political rallies, and protests. Furthermore, artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be incorporated into CCTV systems to identify criminals even if they alter their appearance.

These technologies will not only assist in crime detection but also enhance traffic management.

Following the tragic Porsche car accident in Pune, which raised public concerns and criticisms of the police, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar defended the department's swift actions. Nine individuals, including the boy’s parents, Sassoon hospital doctors, and intermediaries, were arrested in connection with the incident.

Kumar highlighted that despite the high profile of the accused, they have been denied bail for the past four months and remain in custody.

He assured the public that the police are working diligently to secure justice for the deceased and urged that Pune’s name should not be tarnished over a single unfortunate incident.

To prevent similar incidents in areas like Bopdev Ghat, Kumar revealed that the Pune police have conducted security audits of ghat regions and remote areas.

Measures including enhanced lighting, CCTV, public address systems, and visible police presence will be implemented. Fadnavis added that night vision cameras would also be installed in these black spots to prevent criminals from taking advantage of the darkness.
