Pune: In a chilling revelation, the post-mortem report of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Vanraj Andekar has confirmed that he was not only shot but also stabbed 24 times in a brutal attack.
Andekar’s murder, which occurred on September 1 in Pune’s Nana Peth area, has shaken the city, bringing to light a deadly mix of family disputes, property feuds, and long-standing animosities.
Initial investigations revealed that the attack on Andekar was meticulously planned and executed. On the day of the murder, the attackers fired multiple shots, with one bullet hitting Andekar's nose and another lodging in his throat. Additionally, the post-mortem report disclosed that Andekar was savagely stabbed 24 times with a machete-like weapon.
A Gruesome Crime Scene
The police had earlier recovered five bullet casings from the crime scene, which pointed to the intensity of the assault. However, during the initial medical examination, it was believed that Andekar had succumbed to 14 stab wounds.
The final post-mortem findings have now revealed the full extent of the attack—Andekar was shot twice and endured 24 brutal stab wounds.
Motive Behind the Murder: Revenge and Long-standing Rivalry
The police investigation points to a complex web of motives behind Andekar’s murder. The primary suspect, Somnath Gaikwad, is believed to have orchestrated the killing to avenge the murder of his associate, Nilesh Akhade, who was allegedly killed by Andekar’s gang in Nana Peth last October.
Following Akhade's murder, another attempt was made on the life of Akhade’s friend, Aniket Dudhbate, who was grievously injured in the attack.
The police have arrested 15 people, including Gaikwad, Dudhbate, Andekar’s sister, and brother-in-law, in connection with the crime. Furthermore, three minors involved in the conspiracy have been taken into custody.
Investigators have also seized three pistols used in the murder, and it has been revealed that Gaikwad had procured these firearms from Madhya Pradesh a year prior to the crime.
Legal Actions Under MCOCA
Authorities have confirmed that the accused in the murder will be charged under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), given the premeditated nature of the attack and the involvement of multiple organized crime elements. This law will allow for more severe penalties and an accelerated judicial process.
