Pune: The Special MCOCA Court has denied bail to Advocate Pragya Kamble, alias Mhaire, a close associate of notorious drug trafficker Lalit Patil.
The court order, issued by Special Judge V. R. Kachare, comes after Kamble was arrested for aiding Lalit Patil's escape from Sassoon Hospital and for her involvement in his drug trafficking activities.
Kamble faces multiple charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), and for destruction of evidence.
Pragya Kamble, who has been in judicial custody, sought bail but was opposed by Special Public Prosecutor Pramod Bombatkar. The prosecution argued that Kamble had been involved with Lalit Patil since 2014, assisting him in his illegal mephedrone business.
Evidence presented in court showed that Lalit Patil's brother, Bhushan Patil, provided Kamble with money from drug sales, and she managed transactions for one of Lalit Patil's bank accounts.
Police also linked her to the seizure of 1.71 kilograms of mephedrone, valued at ₹2.14 crores, from her associate Subhash Mandal.
The court accepted the prosecution's argument, emphasizing Kamble's deep involvement in the criminal activities and the potential risk of her tampering with evidence if released. Consequently, her bail application was rejected.
The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the extent of the drug trafficking network and the roles played by those close to Lalit Patil.
Recently, a police raid on an illegal party at Liquid Leisure Lounge (L3) Bar on Fergusson Road had revealed the consumption of the drug mephedrone, leading to the arrest of several individuals.
