Pimpri: Veteran actor and President of the All India Marathi Natya Parishad, Prashant Damle, has called for urgent technical upgrades in the G. D. Madgulkar Auditorium located in Pradhikaran.

Speaking at a program held at Science Park, Damle pointed out the various flaws in the auditorium’s design that hinder its functionality as a performance venue.

The event was attended by MP Shrirang Barne, MLA Uma Khapre, Amit Gorkhe, and retired Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Pravin Tupe.

Damle highlighted that the Ramkrishna More Auditorium in Chinchwad stands as a model of excellence due to the involvement of artists during its planning and construction.

“The auditorium is in excellent condition because artists were consulted on what was needed and what wasn’t. This led to a quality and durable structure,” said Damle.

He praised Pravin Tupe, the then Additional Commissioner, for his role in ensuring that the auditorium was equipped with all necessary features, including well-maintained seating and a robust sound system, with no signs of structural issues like leaks.

In contrast, Damle pointed out that the G. D. Madgulkar Auditorium failed to consider the technical requirements crucial for theater performances during its construction.

This oversight has resulted in several technical deficiencies that now require immediate rectification to meet the needs of the theater community.

Damle also commended the Municipal Corporation for establishing Science Park to foster scientific awareness. However, he noted that it has not received adequate publicity within Maharashtra, limiting its reach and impact.

Damle emphasized the importance of increasing public awareness about Science Park, stating, “People should come, see, and explore this park. It’s a self-sustained initiative that has managed without government assistance, and it deserves to be known nationwide.”

He assured that he would extend all possible support to help the project gain broader recognition.
