Pune: The Pre-Matric Scholarship scheme for students from Scheduled Castes (SC) has transitioned to an online process starting from the academic year 2024-25.
However, a significant number of schools have shown negligence in completing the required registration, prompting the Social Welfare Department to take strict action.
Notices have been issued to Block Education Officers (BEOs) across various districts to ensure that schools expedite the registration process on the MahaDBT Portal.
Out of the total schools, approximately 50% have successfully completed the registration process. However, around 964 schools have yet to register, despite thousands of SC students benefiting from the Pre-Matric Scholarship each year.
The concerned schools have been given a one-week deadline to complete their registration, failing which further action may be taken.
Previously, the Pre-Matric Scholarship was managed through an offline system, but starting this academic year, the entire process has been moved online.
Schools are now required to complete their registration on the Mahadbt Portal to ensure that eligible students receive their scholarships in a timely manner.
The Social Welfare Department is monitoring the progress closely and has directed all schools to complete the necessary steps within the stipulated timeframe.
This move is crucial in ensuring that the benefits of the scholarship reach every eligible student without delay. The Social Welfare Department has indicated that it will take further measures if schools fail to comply with the instructions.
