Pune: The persistent traffic congestion around Pune airport has been a significant issue for both travelers and the administration. To tackle this, the airport administration and traffic police have introduced a new traffic plan.
The road from the new T2 terminal to Viman Nagar is now open, along with two additional roads – one leading to Symbiosis and another to Lohegaon. This new arrangement, which will be effective from Sunday (14th), is expected to ease the traffic congestion.
Illegal parking around Pune airport has caused severe traffic jams, particularly at night, resulting in many travelers missing their flights. With T2 set to open to passengers on Sunday (14th), there were concerns about increased congestion.
However, the opening of the new road to Viman Nagar is expected to provide significant relief. This road will accommodate a large volume of traffic, helping to distribute vehicles and reduce jams.
The traffic police and airport administration have collaborated to implement measures to prevent traffic jams, including the decision to open the roads from T2 to Viman Nagar.
According to Airport Director Santosh Dhoke, these steps are expected to substantially reduce traffic congestion around the airport.
Meanwhile, Minister of State (MoS) for Civil Aviation Murlidar Mohol reviewed the final preparations for new terminal at Pune International Airport on Friday (July 12). The terminal, after completing all necessary technicalities, is scheduled to become operational on Sunday (July 14) at 1 PM.
Equipped with cutting-edge technologies and advanced facilities, the terminal promises a unique Puneri experience through its creative aesthetics, which showcase Pune’s rich cultural heritage.
Anticipating the city's future growth, the terminal is designed to accommodate up to 90 lakh passengers annually.
