Pune and PMRDA Fire Brigades on High Alert, Read Status of Deployed Units
Pune is experiencing emergency conditions due to continuous heavy rainfall, which has led to an increased water discharge of 45,000 cusecs from the dam as of 5 PM on Sunday (August 4). Both Pune and PMRDA fire brigades were on high alert throughout the day.
The rising water levels prompted the Pune and PMRDA fire brigades to use megaphones to warn residents about the discharge at Ektanagari on Sinhagad Road.
Three boats were also dispatched to the area. Fire brigade personnel were active at Nimboj Nagar as well, using torches, ropes, megaphones, life jackets, life rings, and boats in their operations.
Personnel were also deployed in Dattawadi Ghat, Bhide Bridge, Pulachi Wadi, Vishrantwadi Tank Road, Adarshnagar, Shantinagar, Tadivala Road, Shivajinagar Patil Estate slum area, and other locations. Fire brigade chief Devendra Potphode conducted on-site inspections at various locations.
In June, Pune district recorded the least rainfall in the state. From Ektanagari (35) and Nimboj Nagar (25) to Yerawada Adarshnagar and Shantinagar, the Pune and PMRDA fire brigades have safely relocated around 160 people so far, including approximately 100 citizens.
There have been 15 incidents of tree falls in the city area (Nilyam Theatre, Sadalbaba Chowk, Wakdewadi, Bhandarkar Road, Ganesh Peth, Araneshwar Temple, Sangamwadi Road, Lullanagar, Gokhalenagar, Baner Road, Sassoon Road, Khadki, Pashan, Law College Road, Koregaon Park), causing damage to four-wheelers and two-wheelers, which the fire brigade personnel have removed, clearing the roads.
No injuries have been reported
"Fire brigade personnel issued warnings using megaphones in areas likely to be affected by flood conditions. About 20 officers and nearly 300 personnel, including myself, are active in various locations," stated Devendra Potphode, Chief Fire Officer, Pune Municipal Corporation.
