Pune: A distressing incident unfolded on the Atal Setu bridge in Navi Mumbai, where 35-year-old banker Alex Regi, employed with Kotak Mahindra Bank, ended his life by jumping into the sea.
The tragedy occurred as Alex was returning to Pune from Mumbai after attending a company meeting at the bank's BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) office.
On the night of the incident, CCTV footage captured his car coming to a halt on the Atal Setu. This unusual activity triggered an alert to the local authorities. However, by the time the police arrived at the location, Alex had already jumped off the bridge into the sea.
Despite efforts from the rescue teams, his body was recovered lifeless. The body was later handed over to his grieving family. Initial investigations have revealed that Alex, a resident of Pimpri in Pune, had also met his father-in-law during his visit to Mumbai.
The exact reason behind his extreme action remains unclear, but family members have alleged that intense work pressure from his superiors may have driven him to take this drastic step. Notably, no suicide note was found at the scene or in his vehicle.
This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through both Alex's family and colleagues. While an official inquiry is underway, the tragedy has once again raised concerns about mental health issues related to workplace stress, particularly in the high-pressure banking sector.
Alex’s family has called for further investigation into the circumstances leading up to his death, demanding accountability from the bank’s management.
