Pune: The immersion of Goddess Gauri, who are celebrated as symbols of prosperity and happiness, took place on Thursday (September 12) with great devotion across Pune.
Goddess Gauri, who are traditionally considered as daughters visiting their maternal home, arrived in households on Tuesday and were honored with a warm welcome.
The celebrations included offering special meals and performing the 'Haldi-Kumkum' ceremony for married women, which added to the festive spirit.
Gauris, adorned and honored in various homes, were treated to elaborate decorations, sweets, and other offerings. Families meticulously arranged toys and other decorative items to create a festive ambiance around the Gauris.
On the day of their arrival, the Gauris were offered a simple meal of vegetables and bread, signifying the humble hospitality of their maternal home. On the second day, the offerings were elevated to a feast with an array of traditional delicacies, reflecting the cultural richness of the festivities.
The three-day celebration created an auspicious atmosphere in homes throughout Pune, with rituals, prayers, and joyous gatherings marking the occasion.
The immersion of the Gauris on Thursday was conducted with traditional rituals, marking the conclusion of their brief but revered stay in each household.
Many families immersed their domestic Ganesh idols alongside the Gauris. This practice parallels the immersions seen on Anant Chaturdashi, the day dedicated to the grand immersion of Ganesha idols.
The immersion process was a sight to behold, as families gathered near water bodies, singing traditional songs and offering prayers, creating a scene of collective devotion and cultural unity.
The farewell to Gauris and Ganeshas was both a somber and joyous occasion, as devotees bid adieu with the hope of their return next year, continuing the cycle of devotion, tradition, and celebration.
