Pune: In response to the devastating floods that recently hit Pune, the District Collector has assured that ₹25,000 in aid will be provided to each affected household.
The heavy rains, compounded by water releases from nearby dams, led to widespread flooding, submerging homes and businesses. Residents and shop owners alike suffered significant losses, with waterlogged homes and damaged goods.
The administration has relaxed the compensation criteria, allowing for quicker disbursement of funds. The city is also taking steps to address the root causes, including removing illegal encroachments and redefining flood-prone areas.
A few days ago, heavy rains wreaked havoc in Pune. Continuous downpours, coupled with the release of water from dams, led to a flood situation.
Water entered many homes, causing significant damage. Shops were also inundated, leading to considerable losses. Now, there seems to be some relief for the people of Pune.
Those whose names are on the voter list and registered shop owners will receive 74% of the losses or a maximum of ₹50,000, whichever is higher.
This includes small stall owners as well. The city has seen an increase in encroachments, which has also intensified the flood situation. These encroachments will be removed. Additionally, a new flood line will be drawn.
Pune was battered by rains, with water levels rising as high as chest-deep in some areas. NDRF personnel were deployed, and their rescue operations were carried out on a war footing.
Unfortunately, some lives were lost, and many homes were destroyed, with everything inside being washed away. In such times, people had hoped for assistance.
Currently, surveys are being conducted by the administration, and the District Collector has assured aid to those affected.
