Pune: This year’s Ganesh Festival in Pune’s eastern regions is not only a celebration of devotion but also a tribute to the bravery of Indian soldiers and police forces.
Several mandals have focused on live exhibits that bring to life key moments of national courage, including the Kargil War of 1999 and the 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

In the areas of Lashkar, Bhavani Peth, and Somwar Peth, the Hind Tarun Mandal Trust has created a remarkable live display depicting the India-Pakistan Kargil War, showcasing the bravery of Captain Manoj Pandey.
The Shrikrishna Tarun Mandal has created a vivid representation of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, highlighting how the Indian police and military courageously fought back. It also features the heroic actions of constable Tukaram Omble, who played a key role in capturing terrorist Ajmal Kasab alive.
Beyond these patriotic displays, other mandals have crafted imaginative and thought-provoking exhibits. The Maruti Mandal Trust has put together a street play titled ‘Punya’s Goodwill, Pune’s Youth,’ which discusses the current state of Pune’s youth and the city’s ethos.
The Veershaiva Lingayat Gavali Samaj has created a majestic “Ashwa Rath” (Horse Chariot), while Kamathipura Sarvajanik Ganpati Utsav has erected a grand “Gajmahal” (Elephant Palace).
In Rasta Peth and Ganj Peth, several mandals have used their displays to spread awareness about social issues. For instance, the Pratap Mitra Mandal has showcased the achievements of Indian athletes in the Olympics and T20 World Cup.
The Mahatma Phule Youth Front has highlighted the rising issue of cybercrime through short films, while the Maratha Mitra Mandal focused on the increasing accidents in Pune and the harmful effects of mobile phones on children.
Adding to the festive spirit, many mandals have also employed vibrant lighting and eye-catching decorations. The Sainath Mandal has illuminated its display with attractive lighting, while the Satyajyot Mandal Trust has reenacted the mythological story of "Kans Vadh."
