Pune: A disturbing case of extortion and violence has emerged from Wadgaon Budruk, where a group of individuals allegedly demanded a monthly payment of ₹10,000 along with alcohol, resorting to intimidation and threats to assert their demands.
The complaint was lodged by Mahesh Murlidhar Shinde, aged 50, who operates the Yara Resto and Bar in Meenakshipuram.
According to the details provided to the Sinhagad Road Police, the accused—identified as Pravin alias Hasmya Dhakne, Vikas Kambale, Anandya Wakunde, and other accomplices—all residents of Tukai Nagar—frequently visited Shinde's establishment from January 5, 2023, to July 2024, insisting on receiving alcohol and the monthly installment.
The situation escalated when the accused grew aggressive after Shinde failed to meet their demands.
They allegedly attempted to attack him with sharp weapons. In a particularly alarming incident, Vikas Kambale picked up a glass bottle from the counter and hurled it at Shinde’s head, demonstrating their willingness to resort to violence.
In addition to this attack, the group reportedly stole two pillars of Royal Stag whiskey from the bar.
Shortly thereafter, Pravin Dhakne confronted Shinde outside the hotel, threatening him in an aggressive manner, stating, “Have you gotten too bold? Despite my telling you, you’re not giving me the installment and alcohol.
If you don’t comply, I will come in and break your bar,” while waving a machete threateningly above his head.
This display of intimidation caused nearby individuals, including a handcart vendor, to flee the area, with passing motorcyclists also hastily departing to avoid confrontation.
The police are taking this matter seriously, with investigations underway to apprehend the accused and ensure justice is served in this alarming case of extortion and violence.
