Pune: A jeweler faced significant loss when an artisan absconded with gold worth ₹42 lakh that was given to him to craft jewelry.

The incident, which highlights the risks involved in trusting external artisans with valuable materials, has led to a case being filed at the Faraskhana Police Station.

The absconding artisan, identified as Ramesh Shankar Maity, was entrusted with the gold by jewelers Mayur Prafulchandra Soni and Joynath Maity.

The plan was for Maity to use the gold to create custom jewelry. However, after receiving the gold, Maity did not return with the jewelry. Upon inquiry, it was discovered that Maity had fled, taking the gold with him.

A complaint has been lodged by Mayur Soni at the Faraskhana Police Station, and the case is currently under investigation by Assistant Police Inspector Vaibhav Gaikwad.

The incident has shed light on the need for jewelers to exercise caution and verify the reliability of artisans to whom they entrust such significant amounts of gold.
