Pune: Every morning, Avinash Kulkarni, a lawyer by profession, begins his day with a burst of creativity by crafting exquisite flower rangoli designs in his garden.

Over the past eight years, he has transformed this hobby into a ritual, sharing these intricate designs with friends and family on WhatsApp. Today, his creations brighten mornings for thousands of people in India and abroad.

Kulkarni’s artistic journey began serendipitously when he accidentally spilled flowers onto a dining table while collecting them for a devotional offering.

The resulting design inspired him to start creating flower rangolis. To enhance his craft, he built a custom rotating wooden table and has since been designing rangolis every morning without fail. His daily commitment has continued since 2016.

Avinash’s process involves arranging flower petals, buds, leaves, and twigs into symmetrical patterns, relying solely on his artistic instincts without tools.

Seasonal changes also influence his work: summer demands speed due to drying flowers, while cooler weather allows for more intricate designs. On days when flowers are scarce, he collects them from his neighborhood or purchases them from local markets.

What started as a personal endeavor has grown into a widely admired practice. Friends and admirers create short videos set to music featuring his rangoli designs, while others print them as greeting cards or for home decor.
