Pune: In two disturbing incidents of animal cruelty, Pune witnessed shocking violence against dogs in separate areas. On Sunday (October 20), in Parvati, a person shot at a dog that ran towards him.
Fortunately, the bullet missed, and the dog survived unharmed. In a separate incident on Tuesday (October 22), a young man in Pirangut hanged his pet dog, leading to its death.
The Parvati incident occurred when the man, allegedly in self-defense, fired a shot at the dog as it charged towards him.
The Parvati Police Station has filed a case, and the firearm, which the man owned with a valid license, has been confiscated for investigation. Senior Inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad confirmed that the man is under legal scrutiny.
In a more grievous incident in Pirangut, a video shared on social media on Tuesday exposed a young man who had hanged his pet dog. The act drew widespread outrage, with residents expressing their shock and anger.
The Paud Police Station has registered a case against the dog owner, who claimed the animal had become aggressive. However, authorities have cast doubt on this explanation. A post-mortem examination of the deceased dog has been ordered to determine the facts.
The accused has been detained by the police, and legal proceedings are underway to address this heinous act of cruelty. Public anger continues to grow, with calls for strict legal action against the perpetrator.
Aditya Thackeray, posted on 'X' (formerly Twitter), "I am appalled to see how people can behave in such a cruel manner," he stated, urging authorities to ensure justice for the inhumane treatment of animals.
