Pune: Due to persistent heavy rainfall across Pune, the inauguration ceremony for the much-anticipated underground metro route between District Court Metro Station and Swargate Metro Station has been postponed.
The decision was made after adverse weather conditions disrupted normal city life, making it difficult for citizens to safely attend the event.
The ceremony, initially scheduled for September 26, 2024, was expected to be a significant milestone in Pune's metro development, marking the opening of the underground section that connects key parts of the city.
However, officials have now decided to delay the event to avoid inconvenience to the public and ensure safety amid the inclement weather.
Despite the postponement of the inauguration, Pune Metro authorities have confirmed that regular metro services across the city will continue as usual. The previously announced changes in metro services for September 26 have been canceled.
Commuters who were expecting the new underground route between District Court Metro Station and Swargate Metro Station to become operational will need to wait until a new date is announced.
"The safety of passengers is our top priority, and given the current weather situation, we have decided to delay the opening of the new metro line. We will inform the public once the situation improves and a new date is confirmed," said a metro spokesperson.
Pune has been facing relentless rainfall over the past few days, impacting traffic, daily activities, and several public events. Schools and colleges in Pune and neighboring Pimpri-Chinchwad were also closed as a precautionary measure.
Metro passengers are advised to stay updated through official channels for further announcements regarding the inauguration and service changes. The authorities have urged passengers to plan their commutes accordingly while regular services remain operational throughout the city.
