Pune: Torrential rains starting Wednesday night have led to the deaths of four individuals in Pune district. Due to landslides and water overflowing bridges, traffic has been halted on two state highways and seven district roads.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, along with five army units, have been deployed to assist and relocate citizens amidst the flood situation, according to District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. Dr. Divase assured that the administration is fully prepared to handle any emergencies.
Continuous heavy rainfall in the Khadakwasla dam chain area could lead to fluctuations in the water released into the Mutha river. Residents along the riverbanks have been warned to stay alert.
All schools and colleges, except those in Baramati, Indapur, and Purandar talukas, as well as in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, have been closed. Private offices and establishments have also been given a holiday, while government offices remain open. Citizens are advised to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
