Pune District Guardian Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced creation of seven new police stations within the jurisdiction of Pune Police Commissionerate and four new police stations within Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate.
The Home Department has initiated the process of establishing 11 new police stations in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, responding to the increasing need for enhanced law enforcement in rapidly urbanizing areas.
According to the proposal, 11 new police stations will be set up within the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissionerate areas. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, four new police stations will be established in Sant Tukaram Nagar, Dapodi, Kalewadi, and Bavdhan.
Meanwhile, the Pune Commissionerate will see new police stations at Nanded City, Baner, Kalepadal, Fursungi, Kharadi, Ambegaon, and Wagholi.
The Home Department's focus is on ensuring that every newly formed taluka has its independent police station. Additionally, it is being mandated that rural police stations be no more than 10 kilometers apart, while in urban areas, the distance between police stations should not exceed 4 kilometers.
Once these new police stations are established, staffing will be handled either by reallocating existing resources or creating new positions.
This initiative also includes new police stations under the Railway Police Headquarters, including locations like Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kurla, Asangaon, Ambernath, and Bhayandar.
The Konkan Railway section has already seen the establishment of the Ratnagiri Railway Police Station in 2023, and a new police station named Nirbhaypurav has been set up in Jalna district.
With the changing nature of crimes in modern times, the widespread use of social media, the religious and political crimes emerging from it, and the resulting impact on society, as well as financial frauds committed via the internet, the creation of new police stations has become a necessity.
