Pune Police Crime Branch Nabs Man After Year-Long Manhunt in Extortion Case
Pune: The Crime Branch Unit III of Pune Police has successfully apprehended a man who had been absconding for over a year after being involved in a violent extortion case. The accused, Tejas Madhukar Kamble, 23, was arrested from Dhayari Phata after an extensive manhunt.
The case dates back to May 6, 2023, when Kamble, along with accomplices, allegedly intercepted a car being driven by the complainant. Kamble threatened the driver with a knife, forced him out of the vehicle, and demanded ₹50,000 as extortion.
During the incident, the accused also verbally abused and physically assaulted the complainant. A formal complaint was lodged at Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station on May 14, 2023. However, Kamble had managed to evade arrest and had been on the run since the crime.
Acting on a tip-off received by Police Constable Dnyaneshwar Chitte of Crime Branch Unit III, a team of officers swiftly moved to Dhayari Phata, where Kamble was spotted.
He was taken into custody without any resistance and later handed over to Bharati Vidyapeeth Police for further investigation and prosecution.
The operation was led by Senior Police Inspector Rangrao Pawar under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner Nikhil Pingale, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Ganesh Ingle.
The team involved in the successful arrest included constables Vinod Bhandalkar, Ganesh Sutar, Vinod Jadhav, Sonam Nevse, Dnyaneshwar Chitte, and Ganesh Shinde.
