Pune: In a bid to clamp down on drunk driving and enforce stricter traffic discipline, Pune Police have announced the implementation of daily night blockades across the city.
The operation, aimed at curbing incidents of drunk driving, will be conducted between 11 PM and 3 AM. To carry out this task, 27 strategic locations across Pune and its suburbs have been identified by the traffic police.
The initiative, led by the city's police force, will involve the participation of 125 personnel under the supervision of an Assistant Police Commissioner.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that this nightly drive will focus on bringing reckless drivers under control and ensuring the safety of Pune’s roads.
"We are setting up checkpoints in various parts of the city where vehicles will be inspected daily at night. The objective is to take strict action against unruly drivers and enforce traffic rules effectively," said Kumar.
As part of the operation, police officers will also target drivers who violate traffic rules by driving in the wrong direction. "We have already started taking action against such drivers, and vehicles belonging to those who break traffic laws will be seized," Kumar added.
This operation is being carried out under the guidance of Additional Police Commissioner Manoj Patil and Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende.
Hygiene Measures in Breathalyzer Tests
In an effort to maintain hygiene and reduce the risk of infection, the police will be using breath analyzers to test suspected drunk drivers. The tube attached to the breath analyzer device will be replaced after every test, and the used tube will be destroyed immediately.
This move addresses concerns raised by drivers regarding hygiene, ensuring that there is no chance of infection during the testing process.
